Donald Trump Iftar Party: US President Donald Trump has expressed gratitude for the support of the American Muslim community while having an Iftar party at the White House. Trump said that Muslim-Americans supported him in record numbers in the November 2024 presidential election which was unbelievable for him. In his address Trump respected the religious traditions of the Muslim community and praised their dedication during the holy month of Ramadan.
It is a pleasure to have Iftar
During the Iftar party Trump said that it is a pleasure to have such an event in the White House and guests should enjoy it. He also jokingly said that if someone does not like it then they should not complain because he is still in the White House. However such comments were considered insensitive by many and said to ignore the feelings of the Muslim community.
Efforts are being made for peace
Trump also highlighted his administrations efforts to establish peace in the Middle East on this occasion. Referring to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas he said that the ceasefire that was signed in January under the mediation of the US Egypt and Qatar ended in March. However Trumps critics say that the foreign policy of his tenure did not make any concrete contribution to bringing lasting peace in the Middle East.
Debate sparked in American politics
By the way Trumps Iftar party has once again sparked a debate in American politics. Trumps supporters say that this is a sign of his changed attitude towards the Muslim community while opponents believe that this is just another example of political opportunism.
Resentment seen in Muslim community
Resentment has also been seen in the American Muslim community regarding this Iftar party organized by Trump. Many Muslim civil rights groups protested outside the White House under the name Not Trumps Iftar. The protesters said that this shows the difference between Trumps words and actions.
